New product : ReWire VST host for Mac OS X / PT6.1

Dear all,

First, as I'm new here, I'll quickly introduce myself - I'm Angus Hewlett, Technical Director at London-based audio software firm FXpansion.

Anyways, just as background, a month or so ago I posted the following thread in the Windows forum regarding a ReWire-compatible micro host for VST instruments:-

Anyways, seeing as we now have a beta version of the sofware running on the Mac OS X platform as well, I thought it would be a good time to allow people here to register their interest. The more interest we get, the sooner it's released.

The app is an extremely lightweight, easy-to-use ReWire host that allows you to integrate VST instrument plug-ins in to your ProTools 6.1 environment. Projected price is $99.

Unfortunately there are no plans for a Classic / PT4/5 compatibe version at this time, but I believe there are already several reasonable alternatives on that platform.

I would say: Freaking awesome!!!
The following features are essential though:
1) Quite a few -great- VSTi´s needs tempo info from the host (like "Virtual guitarist")
2) Sample accurate timing

I would think that "sample accurate" timing would be impossible, since reWire uses RTAS technology (or so its been said on this forum.) -Unless PT can now do auto-compensation for RTAS. Is this the case?

Hi speer,

Sample accurate timing (or consistent by the sample) should be achievable through Apple Core MIDI services (which is supported by Digi/PT6.1). Some developers allready seems to support these services (like Prop-heads/Reason and apparently MOTU/MachFive).

RTAS with DirectMidi2, as used by PT6.1, is *capable* of sample accuracy. Whether or not PT actually transmits the data with sample accuracy, though, I do not know.

Dear Angus,

Thank you for clarifying the issue. Reason does not drift at all, so I guess that PT must transmit the MIDI data with sample accuracy.

Now you should go back to work and finish that Rewire VST host

Any ETA on release?

I'm on the verge of purchasing Cubase SX (though I don't want to), just to run three VSTi s.

I know this is going to be an unpopular statement but I'm going to say it anyway.
If this product works as advertised and there is proper Technical Support for the initial 1.0 version, I'm willing to pay 3 to 4 times your asking price.
