Using S3's avb for mac os and hd native for protools
Hello
I'm not yet an owner of S3, but I think I will soon buy one! I was thinking about using the S3's avb audio interface for the mac os system. And at the same time to use an HD native in the protools session. I'd like to connect them both to a monitoring controller, and be able to listen to itunes and looking for sounds in the finder rather than via the workspace, and still working on a protools session. Do you think it's possible? What do you think about? Thank you |

Hi! Of course it's possible to do that…
You have to use aggregate audio device function in audio-midi setup in your mac. Make one agrgegated device from S3 interface and HD native. Few days ago i did the same with S3 and Apogee Symphony IO. |

Thanks for your reply!
Great! I think it's a great way to use the internal avb engine even if we don't need it because already have an hd rig! |

You can't aggregate anything with an HD system.
If your playback engine will be set to HD Native (PCI or TB) you can't then add another non HD interface. Unless I've been misinformed. It's a bit vague considering you use a lower case "n" when you typed native. |

Re: Using S3's avb for mac os and hd native for protools
Ok sorry i'm french I think you didn't understood what i mean!
I don't want to "agregate", I would like to use avb s3 for all the osx sound system =>the Finder app or itunes, and i'd like to use the hd native pcie 16i/o with the protools session...so avb for coreaudio and hd native for protools work, both at the same time...? |

Can't see why it wouldn't work but try it and let us know if it does. |

Re: Using S3's avb for mac os and hd native for protools
Hello
Now that i am a happy s3 user, I must say that I would be happier if avid could implement avb for mac pro!!! Because Unfortunately, I can't use my s3 with my 2010 mac pro (but it seems 2013 mac pro neither).... I'ts very frustrating because I have already made the patchpanel with the idea to use s3 avb for coreaudio in mind So pleeeeaaaase avid, do something for AVB for mac pro users |

Your Mac Pro does not support AVB, that's an issue between Apple and you, what would you like Avid to do? Avid has been clear you need a recent Mac that does support AVB to uh use AVB. |

Re: Using S3's avb for mac os and hd native for protools
One thing to consider is that AVB and the S3 can be a little temperamental. After 4months of trying a number of systems and setups, I was unable to stop the S3 AVB audio from having intermittent clicks / dropouts.
Apparently this is blamed on processing on the OS. Had to move to a hardware interface for monitoring instead. |
