Default PT11.3.1 wont play DNxHD Video..PT10 will

Its driving me nuts and i cannot find a solution to this problem:

Dual Boot on Mac Pro 4.1 , 24GB , Ati 5870 ,
Decklink Intensity (PCIe OFF on PT11)
A:
PT10.3.9 HD and PT11.3.1 HD on OS.10.8.5
B:
and PT11.3.1 on OS Yosemeti

Videofile : DNxHD 24fps , exported with 50% with MPEGStreamclip

when importing the videofile , even in an empty session , PT 11 ,
BOTH installations , shows still frames and while scrubbing with the mouse,
but the picture is NOT running in playback in the Video Window

In PT 10.3.9 it works fine ....
QT 7 pro , plays the file on both installations fine...

any help?

What exact codec? 36? 115? 1080P? 720? What BM driver version? Did you use some "exotic" settings for the export? Like interleaved or changed frame-order etc.? 10 plays it fine because QT does and 10 uses the QT engine. 11 uses the AVID engine which explains the difference you're seeing. f.

just simple 1080p 24 ...nothing exotic , plain preset with the
source having the same framerate etc.
Quality 50% resulting in 4-5 MB/s

and no error message or similar from PT11 , just the still Frame
from the start which changes to the actual Position when hitting stop

DNxHD offers 36, 115, 175 (8-bit) and 175 (10bit) codecs at 1080P/24. Which one did you use? 36 is usually 36Mb/s so that about the 5MB/s you mentioned. Never seen anything lower, but I always use 100% quality. Can you try to make one with these settings: DNxHD 1080P/24 36 8-bit 100% quality Color levels 709 Alpha none deactivate any interlaced options in MPEGStreamclip's export options. You also didn't answer the question about the installed BM driver version. Any more info there?

I use DNxHD36 at 100% all the time in the same version of 11 without issues so could be the BM driver.

it is indeed 36 , 1080p 24 , i wanted to avoid a to high data rate
since the Video is supposed to reside on a Network volume where
bandwith is a bottleneck sometimes , .....

but i made all tests with the videofile on local hd`s
so the Network isnt an issue here

btw since the PCIe out Option is disabled in my PT11 the bm Driver
should not affect the video-window .... at least SHOULD,

the bm Driver is the latest , at least on yosemite

i can only Export the file with 100% (not sure which datarate it will be)
and try if that works , but the last Export took 5 hours..

Try just a small segment for testing not the whole film.

100% Quality setting will give you a 36Mb/s (4-5MB/s) movie. The 50% quality slider will just degrade the image without really giving you less bandwidth.

Also even full 36 or 115 shouldn't be a problem at all when played back from a drive. I wouldn't recommend playing video from a server unless you are using iSCSI or something other SAN.

Not sure what PCI option you mean. Under 11 there's a "disable video hardware" option. Is that the one you are talking about?

Over here I see absolutely no difference in CPU usage with that on or off.

..i meant disable Video Hardware , disable pcie is in pt10 the Option ,
the Server is as backup and storage for older Projects used ,
which are not needed on local drives but can be accessed quickly
for simple playback or editing purposes via Network volumes

a new export with 100% setting made the film compatible with PT11,

BUT after few edits in the video track the symptom . as stated above ,

came back ( its one video file splitted , in the PT-video track , in regions with 6 reels ) after few edits and moving in and out points within the video track

This time i used again DNxHD 1080p24 36 8-bit , quality 100%

There seems to be still a problem in the video-engine....
