Can you try a different sound device or another session on a different sample rate?

Trash prefs.

Create a new empty session at 44.1 kHz, create a stereo audio track in that session. Drag and drop a know good MP3 or similar song onto that track. Press the play button on the transport controls with your mouse.

What happens?

Still not working go into the Playback engine and switch your IO buffer size to some other large size than what it is now, e.g. set it to 1024, or if already 1024 go to something else. Does it work after you do that?

Try power cycling the computer and interface.

What Pro Tools software was installed before on this computer? Did that work OK?

It is working now with both the space bar and Playback button.

Did you mean the HW Buffer Size? I have only the choice of 1024 or 512.
I do not see a I/O Buffer Size.?

I changed the Cache Size to 1GB for Disk Playback. Is this adequate?

Yes I meant the buffer size shown in the playback engine dialog.

So what did you change to get it working?

Nobody can say, we have ho idea what your sessions look like (# tracks, what plugins and VIs are in use etc.) or how much memory is in your computer. If you have lots of memory and are not using a lot in Pro Tools (e.g. don't have lots of memory hungry VIs) then you can increase it and see how things go.

I trashed preferences, launched the Application Manager and updated Codecs and every other thing in the App Manage increased the buffer size in the playback engine and rebooted.

so far so good.........
