Default MPTK & DV Toolkit 2 - still relevant in a PT11 world?

I have these 2 licenses on my iLok. Just curious if they give me access to any plugs (X-form?) that could actually be used with PT11. It's been so long (PT 7 days), I forget why I even got them.

nope
X-Form is a separate license, if you have the X-Form license form DVTK2 (I think it was bundled at one point) yes it works

As mentioned, X-Form was a separate license, that for a time was included if you bought a new DV Toolkit package. But if you don't have that license, then you don't have the plugin.

As for the toolkits, pretty much all of the features the toolkits provided were bundled into Protools standard as of Protools 9, including timecode, OMF/AAF import, Beat Detective, etc. The only exception is having multiple video tracks. The only way to get that now is Protools HD.

You might see if you can sell the toolkit licenses to someone still using PT8 or earlier.

The MPTK came with a few plugins (about 5) but those are RTAS only which are going away (slowly but surely). It also included the MP3 option which is now included in Protools. The main reason most of us got MPTK back in the day was for the extra number of tracks it allowed in Protools (it was an artificial limit imposed by Avid/Digidesign back then to make sure people didn't have performance problem due to their system's performance). I think it was from 32 to 48. Now, Protools is limited only by your systems performance. Yes, it means $495.00 becomes useless and a throw away item. I can't even get a buyer on Ebay or Craigslist.

Not correct really, so far as the additional plugins that came with MPTK is concerned ... question is, do you have those additional licences still on your iLok?

MPTK included TL Space Native, Smack LE and Eleven LE. All of these have been updated to AAX, and your old licence correctly authorises the AAX version in Pro Tools 11. TL Space is now just called Space in its AAX version.

There have not been updates of the LE versions of Eleven and Smack, only the full versions, but the old LE licences authorise the new full AAX versions in Pro Tools 11.

One subtlety ... the new AAX installers also install updated versions for use in Pro Tools 10, but the old LE licences do not authorise the full versions in Pro Tools 10, I assume Avid programmed them that way as there are working LE versions for Pro Tools 10.

All those AAX updates are free.

MPTK also included LE versions of Structure and Hybrid. AIR has released AAX upgrades to those plugins as part of updating them generally. These are paid upgrades though, not free. However, AIR offers big discounts if you can prove ownership of the old versions, by showing evidence of buying MPTK.

They also offer big discounts in buying the AIR Instrument Expansion Pack if you owned any earlier versions of any of the products that make up that pack, and having Hybrid and Structure (even the LE versions) counts as two products previously owned when buying it.

FYI, all the AIR upgrades from the older instruments ended in May. The only one left is from the original Expansion Pack to the new one. But upgrades from individual instruments are gone, such as Hybrid 1x to Hybrid 2 or 3, or from Hybrid 1x to the new expansion pack. Same for Velvet 1x, Structure 1x, and the others. Note there is an upgrade from Hybrid 2 to Hybrid 3, but that is much more recent.

So for example, if someone has original 1x instruments, they would have to pay full price for newer individual instruments ($149) or full price for the Expansion Pack ($299).

wow, I didn't realise AIR has stopped the upgrade path.

Glad I did it while it was available ... Hybrid LE and Structure LE to Instrument Expansion Pack V2 was a bargain, despite the problems early on with downloading.
