Settings micro to use with Pro Tools Express

Wish settings a use for connect microphone
I am new and from Belgium and have Pro Tools Express + M audio AV 40 instal.
As an amateur filmmaker, i will record a text.
Can some one me explain which settings i should use.
I get no sound when I connecting the micro.
