Default Editing to CD Frame Edges

Hi,

I'm sure this has been posted before, but I couldn't find it.

So I worked it out again and thought it would be useful to post here.

If you want a grid in Pro Tools to equal one CD Frame, so you can snap region boundaries or zero crossing etc. to the edge of a CD Frame.

One CD Frame is 1/75 second, or 588 samples (at 44.1kHz).

Make your project tempo 281.25, with resolution: crotchet.

Set grid to Bars:Beats, 1/64 note.

Now each grid boundary will be exactly 588 samples, one CD Frame.

Yeah, nice workaround. I wish I'd thought of it.

My idea wasn't getting much traction anyway.

Yeah, as I say, I didn't think of it. I'm sure I read it here before, just had to work out the numbers again.

In the mean time found a new feature in the OS X Calculator!

Any Update on this?

I'd like to bounce my Project to CD Frames

I'd hate to have to import into another session with This Tempo Grid setting

I'd Like my next stop to be DDP Authoring

Okay, I admit to being uninformed on some of this. Can someone explain(or link to it) on why this matters? I have sent many a project out without hearing anything about this from mastering engineers, CD dupe houses or clients(I assume it doesn't matter for digital downloads and youtube)

It all depends on how the DDP or CD creation software handles incomplete sectors. Typically burning TAO will pad incomplete sectors with silence. Burning DAO usually advances the following track into the empty space but in so doing, this will move the track start. If you have a CD full of recordings with silent transitions between them, none of this matters. But if you have a live recording and want tracks to transition seamlessly while maintaining control of exact track starts, being able to edit to an exact sector makes that possible without having to concern yourself with how the CD mastering or burning software handles it.

My client want's 0sec between songs on the CD

If the Bounce doesn't end on a frame and when you import the file into a DDP App, the Track IDs could get skewed and can start a frame inside the previous track so if you jump to track 3 you could hear the faint end of track 2

It's Trivial I know, but to have a ruler setting for CD Frames or an option to snap a marker to a CD Frame would be epic!!

Thanks for your Interest
