Default Original Mbox, W7 and PT8

After doing a bit of reading on this, I'm still not entirely clear about whether or not people have been able to get such a combination working together - does anybody know? Is there a definitive guide or thread on the matter?

I know that the combination isn't supported, but then, I've had PT running on hardware that hasn't been supported a number of times, so...

I wouldn't ask such a daft (or desperate) question if it wasn't for the fact that I'm flat broke and can't afford to replace the Mbox with a newer model at the moment, having just had to replace my laptop with something a bit newer.

The compatibility grid tells the tale. 8.0.1 is the last version that works with original Mbox. 8.0.4 is the first version of PT that is approved for Windows7. BUT, it appears that 8.0.1 can run on Windows 7(the biggest issue at first was firewire drivers). If you have 8 and Windows 7, just load it up and cross your fingers.

You could always dual boot XP and Win7. I've been doing this for a while and the only problem is a pause after I click play while a track is record-enabled. Here's a link how:

Thanks - that clears things up a bit for me!

If it doesn't work, I'll give dual booting a shot instead.

I did have problems launching PT8, in that it would freeze when loading plugins for the first time. I had to restart PT three times before it would successfully launch. I haven't had a proper play with it yet, but it coped with the demo projects that I tried.

I'm still a bit surprised at how much it chews up on my new i7 laptop, though. Around 30% from standing

Yea mine was fine with a few tracks, but anything more started giving errors on playback. I'm hoping the new mbox with 8.0.4 or 8.0.5 works ok.....

Keep in mind that there is a huge difference in how the laptop i7's operate in comparison to the desktop versions.
