Default So has clip gain replaced automation for ya?

say for like a Vox.

Messing with the demo and have to say I do like using the clip gain thingie on a vox rather than drawing automation...at least to start with.

Has not replaced it whatsoever but has simplified things a bit. Especially when comping vocals from different takes where a word or 2 might need a little boost and not ready to start automating.

Makes sense...you know how they say you should be mixing with your ears and not staring at the Computer Monitor...this doesn't help because it's very easy to visualize region relationships, sorta kinda. :)

It is really, though a descent amount of compression can skew the visual aspect of the waveform a bit in relation to its actual volume on some tracks. Still can get you pretty close though.

I love it when editing dialogue, to even things out, before I start with the mix. It can easily be done while editing, and keeps the volume automation nice and shiny.

It definitely hasn't replaced automation, but it has simultaneously replaced the Gain and Trim plugs.

Automation still has its place for post-insert level changes, and dynamic range.. But as far as editing and tweaking, it has made a big workflow difference.

I made some recent post work for a half hour TV feature using clip gain exclusively, did not even open a single automation lane. Felt quite unusual, but took just about over an hour, instead of usual 2,5-3 hours. So, yes, it has replaced the automation fuss for me!

Clip gain seems to be working for vocal levels as opposed to automation for my current project.
