Default High Pitch Tone

I would say that most regulars here know about the high pitch tone that some are hearing when using LE with the mbox 2. I have been running my MBOX on a Dell since March and am so used to the pitch I may miss it! Of courst when using Wavlab, the pitch is still coming through the mbox 2 as soon as the appliaction is loaded and the hardware is ready.

I have heard that this may be a usb PC thing and just wondering if anyone is using the SAME MBOX2 on a PC then on a MAC and has the pitch go away. I will be getting a Macbook 1.83ghz within the next few weeks and am wondering?

I get the 'high pitched whine' on my Mac G5 for any audio application: Pro Tools, Drumcore, Tracktion, iTunes, Dashboard etc.

Signal path: MBox 2 -> Samson C-Control -> Wharfedale Diamond Pro 8.2

I had to return a PC notebook this week because the howling whine was so bad it was unusable. This was made worse by the fact that the howling would start when the Mbox was plugged in, regardless if Pro Tools or the wave driver was using it. In my case the problem went away when the mains charger was removed. The PC i bought conformed to all the specs that Pro Tools on windows requires, chipset, processor etc. It was weird that my old vaio notebook worked fine and the new AsusTek one didn't. I think this is a problem with certain PC USB busses, as i said in the windows the forum a lot of the guys over there with the same problem appeared to have Asus mobo's on desktops, there not solely to blame but i was just a pointer that kept cropping up as i searched through the forums.

Now i'm back on the G5 iMac, everything is working fine. I just didn't want to spend £2000 to get 17" Pro Tools portability when the transition between XP and OSX is so smooth with LE.

Cheers
