Default Can't install iLok license manager

My hard drive recently failed so I had to reinstall PT9. When I try to install the iLok license manager I get this message: "Error 1935.An error occurred during the installation of assembly component {844EFBA7-IC24-93B2-A01F-C8B3B9A1E18E}. HRESULT: 0x80073712." When I push "OK" the installation rolls back and then I get another message: "Error -1603 Fatal error during installation. Consult Windows Installer Help (Msi.chm) or MSDN for more information."

I've searched these errors but can't find any resolution to this. Anyone know what this is and how to fix it?

More info needed. Start at the "Help us Help You - READ THIS Before Posting!" link above on this page. Post a Sandra Report (and note what is installed on each disk partition shown). EDIT: Thanks for the Sandra report.

What exact version of Windows? What exactly happened to the hard drive?

If your hard drive containing Pro Tools failed causing you to reinstall that presumably that affected Windows as well. Did you reinstall Windows on that partition from install media or from backup? Did you replace the hard drive or repair it? Does it now scan error-free?

Thanks for the response.

I use Windows 7. I don't know exactly what happened to the old hard drive but I replaced it with a brand new one and reinstalled windows from the Windows 7 disc and moved all my data onto it (I had moved all my data off the old hard drive onto an external hard drive). I'm not sure what you mean by "Did you reinstall Windows on that partition from install media or from backup?" or "Does it now scan error-free?"

Default Re: Can't install iLok license manager

So on a new hard drive you installed Windows 7 from the install Media, installed Pro Tools (what version?) and installed the latest iLok license manager (and got this error).

You scan for hard disk errors using Disk Properties>Tools>Error Checking on any disk icon. But if the drive is entirely new then this is unlikely to be the issue. I thought you may be using a sick drive that had bad blocks repaired from before.

Why are you running Windows 7 not Windows 7 SP1? I'd fix that at some point soon.

You are installing the latest/current License manager software? And the 64-bit (not 32-bit) version?

Uninstall the license manager, reboot, download a new copy if the current/latest 64-but installer and try again. If that does not work I'd reinstall Windows 7, install SP1. Then try to install the iLok license manager *before* any other software (except any other critically needed device drivers (e.g. display driver)) and very importantly before moving any of your data back onto the drive. And how exactly did you "move data back onto" you drive before? and are you sure none of that overwrote any Windows systems files?

Also look in the Windows Event Viewer just to see if your system is throwing out any other unusual looking errors.

These type of errors can happen from a corrupted registry, virus, corrupted disk, etc. So especially given its a new reinstall I'd be willing to scan the hard drive for errors to confirm its OK, and do a full Windows reinstall again being very careful at each step.

Okay I reinstalled Windows 7 and now everything seems to be working fine now (I found out I couldn't install other programs as well). Thanks for the help!
