Default Re: Video Engine Problems with Pro Tools 11

Sort of anxious to hear back from Avid on this one as well. I've been up and running with my PTHD10/11 co-install for a month or so and other than running out of RAM in PT10 (and other occasional freezes that I can't explain nor can I recreate), 10 is fine. 11 is rock solid and fantastic, I just can't mix audio for picture in it, which is a huge bummer.

I think I can speak for many of us in saying that what was shown in the "Avid Everywhere" preview campaign looked incredibly exciting for us Pro Tools users that do those kinds of things now, but in the most complicated ways possible. Was more than I hoped for. That said, some kind of progress report should be made public at this point on something as big as "Video simply doesn't run in PT11". New stuff is always cool, but fixing what are now old, HUGE problems would be seen as not only cooler, but smarter.

Help. Please. This whole situation has grown tiresome.

Anyone have any luck getting rid of this error:

'The Video Engine could not start playback because the clock is not locked. If this persists, try de-activating or removing Native plug-ins.'

I'm only hovering around 62% cpu but if the session sits for a few minutes that pops up when I press play, the cpu meter sticks at 100%. The only remedy I can find is to restart PT.

Using AVID DNxHD video through the desktop video window on a second monitor connected to main video card.

GPU option on in Prefs.

Just updated to 11.1.2… Not sure if this will help, no mention of any video fix in the Read Me file

If anyone has any info it would be appreciated! Thanks

Intransit, I obviously can't speak for everyone, but it appears that almost no one here is having success with the AVE in Pro Tools 11. Pretty much everyone here is running PT10 to run video, myself included. I'm curious to watch this thread and see if you get responses that say something different as I'd love to find a way to be mixing audio for picture in PT11 reliably. Like today. Like right now.

Hi Intransit,
I've been using that same setup very successfully for the last week or so.
Desktop video on a 3rd monitor. PT 11.1.2.

I'm using Pro res proxy at 1080p and I have the gpu turned off in preferences.
I think when I turned it on I got more errors, I'd try with it off.
Maybe pro res proxy is less throughput than DNxHD too?
Its certainly a smaller file size.

Its running like a dream, 5 solid days with no crashes, very occasional deactivating plugins errors, but I just close the box and carry on.
Its a big feature film session too. It reminds me of the solidity of PT7, so refreshing and relaxing to not have to worry about out of memory crashes.
I can finally get some work done.

I'm working on a feature too, composing. I figured out a way around the 100% CPU stuck error… I make a couple heavy tracks inactive, it bounces back and I'm able to re-activate, move on. Better then restarting everything, still frustrating. I'm able to work… No way could I go back to 32bit. the performance of the AAE isn't really as great as advertised though. Thanks for the reply.

Did you try switching off the gpu acceleration, that helped for me.
Of course I don't have any VI's in my session.
A lot of surround reverbs though and a couple of pretty hungry upmixers.

+1 - waiting to finally pull the PT11 trigger if there's finally some positive feedback...

So far so good here. Have just spent a day sound editing / mixing in PT11 HD with Blackmagic Intensity Pro… and absolutely NO issues! I was having constant issues freezing and crashing when scrubbing that I reverted back to PT10 HD to work until this issue was sorted. It's been close to a year now that AVID have been working on these issues, so I'm guessing they didn't want to release 11.1.3 until they'd cleaned up all the bugs related to the AVE.

Fingers crossed that I haven't jinxed myself by writing this report…

Still getting start/ stop loops. Trying complete 10/ 11 reinstall just in case.

Edit: Nope. Didn't help.
