Default Performance difference - PB G4 1.67 / MacBook/Pro?

Can anyone give me an indication of how the performance will change between the Powerbook G4 1.67, and the new MacBook Pro?

Anyone?

Specifically Pro Tools related. Plug-in count, cpu usage, etc.

Thanks.

the 15in 2.33ghz core 2 duo macbook pro has been said to rival a dual 2.7ghz G5 in processing power. if that gives you an idea of the significant power increase apple laptops have gained from going intel...

I believe you would see a significant difference between them. The Macbook Pros are roughly on par with the dual-processor G5 towers. The G4 powerbooks can't say that.

Huge difference. I have an older G4 (PowerBook G4, 1 Ghz, 17", the first 17") and now a PowerBook Pro 2.16 Intel Core Duo. Plugins use, including Reverbs and Virtual Instruments is like several times more powerful now. I mean a lot!

I went from a 1.25ghz G4 powerbook to my current macbook pro. i'd say about 3 to 4 times difference. (this is plug in power difference, not tracks. cos track numbers rely on y' hard drive and plugs rely on y'processor)

PS. Also worth noting is that the hard drive capacity has almost doubled, the graphics are much faster and the start up times are so short they make "having " to restart not such a pain.

To you Macbook Pro owners: I'm thinking about ditching my dual 2.0 G5 in favor of the Duo Core 2 2.33 (15 inch). But I'm concerned that when mixing a large, CPU intensive session, the fans will kick on and make listening difficult. When my G5's fans do come on, at least the tower is away from me on the floor. But a laptop's fans would be closer to my ears than my monitors. Are the fans very loud? I went to the apple store near me, and the salesman and I couldn't get the fans to kick in on the display models while running a Logic Express demo session.

RecordingHouse, it's great to read that the model I'm interested in compares to the dual 2.7 G5. How'd you find this out?

I can't vouch for the G5 being slower than the MacBook Pro. (the 3rd macbook pro will be out before the end of the year and mac pro's.) But the fan rarely comes on my MacBook Pro, and when it does it's not a problem re;noise or duration.
though having the computer in another room is obviously better. Buy a laptop if you need portability.
