should I upgrade from 6.4 to 7.4 now or wait

I have a Digi001, and will be purchasing an 003 in the next couple of days (I'm getting a good deal on it). I am currently running the 001 on an Athalon XP 2500 single core processor, which I have had running without a hitch for the last 4+ years. It is running XP, service pack 1, and has never been connected to the internet, nor does it do anything but run my audio software.

Soon I will be building an i7 machine, but that won't likely happen for at least another 3 months.

Should I upgrade to the 003 and PT 7.4 on my current machine? Will I take a performance hit from 6.4, and if so, how much? How can I tell if my firewire card will work (it is PCI, not express, so I don't even know if I could go out and buy a working card at this point)?

I would say stick with 6.4 if you can I'm not sure the 003 will work with it I would guess it would but if your building a new machine soon and 6.4 works fine don't push your luck on a single core machine

I agree with CrAkD. Since the 003 will not work with any version before 7.3, AND you plan on building a new system soon, I would leave your complete 001 setup alone(i.e. it ain't broke so don't fix it). The exception for me would be if you removed your XP SP1/PT6.4 system drive and install a new system drive, load in XP fresh, update it to SP3 and install 7.4 so you can revert back to the original drive if anything doesn't work right. It would be a good way to start tasting the new goodies, but I would not mess with the working C: drive you have.
