Re: HEAT (Harmonically enhanced Algorithm Technology)
I respectfully disagree Jimi - You could call real hardware, a Pultec EQ, an LA2A an "I Know what I'm doing Plug" - They're all tools for shaping sound. and thats what we do... Shape sound. Plugins, HW, h.e.a.t, a megaphone... are all "Tools" - h.e.a.t to me, and some of the Hit Producing Engineers that have been by here, also seem to love it as well... I'm sure some don't
Tools during tracking, different tools during mixing, and our ears in the end, are what get the results. h.e.a.t to me, and several of the folks, who have sold tens, of millions of records more then me, seem to really like it's sonic effect on the Pro-Tools mixer. And I'm sure some... who haven't been by yet, will want it turned off.

Re: HEAT (Harmonically enhanced Algorithm Technology)
I have not tried it (not on Snow Leopard yet), but it seems HEAT as a first step is a great thing. Maybe a future step will be adding the ability to use a user selectable, globally controlled plug-ins, that are open to 3rd party developers as well, in order to really vary the character of the overall sound of ProTools with only a few seconds of work/tweaking.

Re: HEAT (Harmonically enhanced Algorithm Technology)
I tried to compare HEAT and analog channel. They are different beasts, but the result can be pretty close to what Heat does when drive is set counterclockwise. Heat is more mushy and gooey. AC is more firm and in your face. Obviously, AC is more flexible when it comes to routing and choosing individual settings per track, but HEAT is a lot faster and easier to get up and running. I have AC and Phoenix. Will I fork up 495 USD for heat? Maybe...

Re: HEAT (Harmonically enhanced Algorithm Technology)
It is important to note that HEAT functions as a TDM plugin (it's HD only for a reason). This means that if you have it set to PRE, and you have RTAS plugins on that channel, you will lose a voice in exactly the same manner as if you were to insert RTAS plugins after a TDM plugin. For that reason, I only run it POST.

Reaper is 64 bit now and their newest version still works with PPC. But it's probably because they're a bigger company with more resources.
