Just the question I wanted to ask.

I am planning on getting a G4/400 AGP (like yourself) to run PTLE 6.0 on OSX, which are quite affordable now. I am very tempted to replace the stock 400MHz CPU with a PowerLogix dual G4 upgrade.

One part of your question I can answer for you: yes, you can get a dual-CPU upgrade easily, but you will need to test your system with an app downloadable from http://www.powerlogix.com/downloads/...ICChecker.sit. Apparently some of the early G4 AGP models can be incompatible with dual CPU upgrades (at least PowerLogix's), so this will confirm it for you.

The other part of your question - are dual CPU upgrades ok with PT 6 - one of the Digi people will have to answer. I'm keen on an answer too so if any admins can let us know, w'be muchly appreciated.

Cheers.......

aah...just to clarify: I'm not planning to upgrade PT or OS; I'm really happy with my setup, I'd just like more grunt in my system.
Also, the GigaDesigns G4/1GHz Processor is a single, not dual processor. The reviews on these sound great; just wondered if any PT users have gone this route.

I too have considered the Powerlogix. I am running a G4 400 processor 700 MB RAM, running 9.2 with beta 32, have no desire for PT6 and X and the bugs therein. My computer is a 100 and not a 133. I read on the Powerlogix site that the cpu has some auto feature which I think distinguishes between 100 and 133 and then does the processing accordingly. Any glitches at all? Or any compatability concerns?
Thanks

I have a g4 400ghz gig/ethernet and installed a powerlogix 1.2ghz. There was no software required. You just plug in and go. My only conflit is that it doesn't wake from sleep but I can live with that.
Protools runs great. I been using it for about a month without hiccup. I get 19 tracks in the dave C test in os 9.2.2.
