So, vanilla now gets copy to send and individual input monitoring plus extra tracks; while for $400 extra, HD users get the chance to give Avid even more money for a HEAT license?

So glad I traded in my CPTK To go HD. Thanks Avid.

Just throwing this out but could this release indicate that Avid is trying to phase out the HD version of software? I know it sounds kinda goofy but HDs only real benefit is track count and surround right? Beyond that its all about the hardware. If this is dumb just ignore me.

HEAT is tempting since it can be applied to all tracks...
You can check out a listening challenge we did a few years back. It also demos for you the two common Heat settings and then challenges you to compare it to a NEVE console summing:

That's what it feels like to me. If that's the case (as a vanilla owner), I'll run and hide in the corner.

I just want to be perfectly clear. HEAT is HD Native only feature update yes? I have a Pro Tools Native license (not HD), so it would be of no use to me correct? Just I've seen it mentioned in this thread a few times that Pro Tools Native got HEAT. I just want to be clear on it so myself and others aren't throwing money down the drain.

Also, what the actual? Why break this feature? What does it mean? I'd love to speculate, but I won't because I don't want to add to the confusion!

Someone on the DUC (who shall remain nameless, but you know who you are!) has suggested that it is about time I sought out my soapbox once again ;-)

Tempted as I am with that prospect, there really is no need. So I'll keep it succinct ...

12.1 is out, no new features, just a few existing titbits cascaded down to users lower down the foodchain. Pretty underwhelming. We already knew that the AAX version of Heat did not actually require HDX hardware, as it already flipped into a non-DSP requiring 'native' mode when bouncing. Plus a few HD only features are now avalable to 'vanilla' users. And, er ... that's it?

Wait. There are complaints about missing features, and then complaints when those features are added? This update is good news.
