Re: PT 8 useless until fixed
Ok so now It's a lot more effective. Menu / View / Waveform / Power.
We'll see when working on a session for real. Activity monitor still screamed at around 70%. Should be fixed.. |

Re: PT 8 useless until fixed
lesson learned... the rule should be if the problem is user error, i.e. upgrading to an OS version not supported, you should have to apologize for making ridiculous comments like, "PT8 is useless..." I would assume you have plugins that are not Leopard/PT8 compatible as well...

I asked them (toontrack) if there was any chance to get this fixed quickly...no answer, no news, just..... "under investigation" And, by the way....the toontrack forum is a joke! You can't even post a thread about any issue...you can just post about beats and sounds... Thanx for communication toontrack... Except that, pt8 LE seems great! Nice new features, UI, and much much better cpu usage..digidesign seems now more generous than ever. Maybe will pt 9 LE bring us complete music production toolkit and/or DV Toolkit for free?? |

Re: PT 8 useless until fixed
easy easy easy, please don't cry! You made the right choice, you'll be happy with the mac purchase I assure you. While OSX10.5.6 isn't "officially" supported, many people are running PT8 without any issues on 10.5.6. While it is advised not to upgrade to 10.5.6, you should have success if you have no choice as in your case. You would have the option of calling Apple and having them send you a new set of system disks with 10.5.5 if you really needed to, they should do it for free since it is a new machine. But that could take 5 or 6 days to get depending on where you are.
So I suggest downloading the OSX 10.5.6 combo updater from Apple's site. Just Google "OSX 10.5.6 Combo Updater" and install it. Since you are new to macs, always use the Combo Updater to update to a Digi Supported OS and not OSX's built in Software updater. In fact disable that feature. After running the updater, throw your PT8 disk in and install away. You must then make sure that all your plugins are PT8 and Leopard compatible. When in doubt, just download the newest versions from Digi's site. So go ahead! Load away! FI you have major problems then call Apple and have them send you OSX 10.5.5 system discs.

Re: PT 8 useless until fixed
thanks for the swift reply. what exactly does the combo updater do that the built in updater doesnt?
and thank you for your reassurance. |

Re: PT 8 useless until fixed
unfortunately I'm not a software engineer, and if Digi chimes in they might have better insight, but if Digi says to do it, I tend not to ask questions. The download itself is usually bigger than the file that you get when using the built in Software Updater, so it obviously has extra data that gets installed. I had a friend call the other day that was unable to work after updating to 10.5.6. I told him to try the updater and he is back in business. Not saying this will help everyone but it helped him.

Re: PT 8 useless until fixed
I'm nearly positive you will have good luck if you install the updater and install PT.
