Default Mac Pro + HD PCIe + Bootcamp + Windows 7 = extreme glitching and unusable audio

Hi there,

As the title suggests under bootcamp, the pro tools hardware does not work. I can hear audio but then after a few seconds playback, in any application, with or without plugins, single or mulitrack, under any buffer size or sample rate, the audio is have severe gliches and dropouts.

I sounds like the CPU is too slow to process the audio when you have 100 plugins running, but even without any plugins and near 0% CPU load.

When I reboot back into mac it works fine.

I need windows for Wavelab 6.

Any ideas anyone, would be much appreciated!

I don't know about your specific issue but I have 2 hd native cards on windows computers, one thunderbolt and one pcie. Both work great.

Questions
1-does it all work in OSX?
2-did you install the Windows driver?
3-have you tried setting Windows to NOT use the HDN card as the default audio device?
4-why not run it in OSX in the first place? If you want to run Windows, a dedicated Windows machine is a much better option

1. It works perfectly in OSX
2. Yes the latest windows drivers
3. How do I set windows to not use the HDN? So probably no.
4. I need bootcamp for wavelab 6 specifically. Even if I went out and bought a new windows computer just for running wavelab, I would still only have one pro tools rig, then I would have to buy another pro tools rig as well and then resolder the patchpay to paralell all of the IO. This would be hugely expensive and well over the top.

Everything else works in bootcamp - I'm not sure why pro tools is so special. After all, a mac pro is basically just a fancy PC made by Apple and not a completely different thing and I am running an actual copy of windows 7.

In Windows, go Start-control panel. In upper right, select small icon view and open Sound Devices. Try to set the default audio device to the onboard audio(not sure if this is possible but it's worth a try). You might also inquire on an upgrade price from Steinberg as Wavelab 8 runs on OSX(but having tried it, I also prefer WL6)
