Default Hope I didn't make the wrong decision?

Just sold off my HD1 system, and have decided to go LE for a while.
Running into all kinds of USB interrupts and weirdness that just will not work.
I have done a few sessions in LE but didn't seem to have these problems before.

Setup is: Macbook Pro 2.33ghz, 4 gig ram, PT7.4.2cs4, Mbox 2, running Rocstor ext FW drive via FW800 port. Session is 12 tracks with 8 being audio. One Q10 per audio track, and the performance levels are very low.

I am running an external monitor off the DVI port. Just zooming in and scrolling back and forth is stopping the session with hardware interrupt messages. Tried 256, 512, 1024 buffer sizes, and no change. Seems like a pretty small session to be having such issues? I can literally hear crackling in the audio as I'm scrolling back and forth or zooming in and out...

I made one guitar track Monophonic/Elastic and it drove the session crazy, with soloing itself and throwing everything else waaaaay off. Trashed prefs, etc etc etc, and still these interrupts.

I have the Mbox straight into the USB port on the MBP, but I have the mouse and Trigger Finger connected to a DLink USB hub on the other USB port. Too much USB??

Any suggestions??

Hope this was not a bad move to get out of TDM land!

By your signature it looks like you have 2 versions on Pro Tools installed?
If the drive is partitioned with 2 separate OSX's then that's OK, but if you've got 2 versions on the same partition then I think that you will have problems.

I run PTLE 8.0.3 on a Macbook 2.0ghz with a USB Mbox2 and have no problems although I'm using 10.6 rather than 10.5.

On Intel Macbooks it's key to only use / select ONE PROCESSOR in the RTAS engine preferences as selecting TWO can means loads of interruptions / USB 'holding off' errors.

As a check you could pull all of your plugins into the unused folder and see how the track plays then. Perhaps you've got some out of date plugins as PT8 is a nightmare with plugins that aren't 'up to date'.

Good luck.

Just running 7.4.2 on the MBP. I have 8.0 as well, but not on that machine.
I'll try the 1 processor thing, and see what happens. I don't recall 7.4 being as picky as 8, but I'll check some plugins as well...

I remember with the macbook pro I had you had to plug the mbox into a certain usb port for it to work. Can't remember wether it was the one nearest to you or not, but it's definitely worth trying it in both and see if it helps.

I'd point you in the direction of the page referring to this issue on Avid's site, but I can't find it.

I agree and think the one to use is the one closest to you(farthest from the screen). Also, since FW800 has been iffy, I would try using an adapter cable(FW800 to FW400) and run the drive in FW400 mode(the cable makes it happen).

The MBP has 2 USB ports, 1 on each side. The right side port seems to work a little better, but still craps out a bit when zooming and scrolling. Can't imagine what that has to do with USB? Do you think it has anything to do with the DVI port powering another monitor? Maybe I should try the FW800-400 cable too.
