I did a fresh intall Pro Tools 6.4 it wont record.

When I activate 1 track and hit record it freezes.

I know you can fix it by installing a fresh system but I know my computer is in perfect condition.
My Nuendo 2 system works fine Wavelab works Fine Reason also works fine.

But Pro Tools acts real funny when not installed in a certain way.
And I still dont know the way you really do it sometimes it works sometimes it wont.

There are no IRQ conflicts and everything is as smooth as can be, but i just downloaded Pro Tools 6.4 and intalled it, and it will crash when I hit Ctrl-spacebar.
The funny thing is that I can do everything in the program but record.

I have not used Pro Tools LE since 2000
I was mainly doing work on Pro Tools Mix And Nuendo at the facility.
And Now I need to transfer some stuff into Pro Tools from Nuendo
and it also crashes when using Digi Translator.

Reset your virtual memory to min 1024 and max 1024 since you have 1G or more RAM

Set session length to 5 or 10 minutes instaed of open ended.

Can you record by pressing the record then play buttons?

I dont know if this helps but, when I first installed PT 6.1, I was tracking to an external HD using firewire from my cpu. I had the same problem. I would hit record and PT would freeze. So I tried connecting to the external HD with usb (its a firewire/usb drive) and have not had any problems since. I don`t know what caused that problem, but usb was my workaround. I`d still like to find out why firewire would`nt work.

I had to re-assign my F/W drive to "record".
6.4 had defaulted it to "transfer"...

Well I tried all that but still no luck.

I dont know why Pro Tools behaves this way because all my other programs run smooth.

I have Removable SATA DRIVES.

I Tried using A WD JB 80 GIG IDE Drive internal and in one of my firewire enclosures but still no luck. somethings really screwed up here.

Oh I got 1 track to record but after a 2 minute delay.

Check your settings. Playback DAE Buffer should be 2.
Check in task manager how much RAM PT is using. It should be somewhere around 250 M. You tried changing Virtual Memory?

ETS (engineering and test services) at Digi reported that they looked at an Opteron and know that it does not work with Pro Tools, any version. So you couldn't have been using it before with PTLE 6.1 or 6.1.1, one of which is required to install the PTLE 6.4 web updater.
