Protocol specs for Control|24?

I would be suprised if Digi did anything if you worked it out on your own.

If I was going down this road, I'd use an ethernet monitor (Software that sits on a laptop/other PC and will monitor the ethernet frames) and connect it to a hub that sits between the C24 and your PC.

Then start wiggling faders and pressing buttons.
You'll have an idea of the data structure then.

How on earth you'd write some code to make that useful to another application is beyond me....

If you're a software kinda guy it could be "Do-able"

They wouldn't have any recourse. The DMCA (17 U.S.C. § 1201 (f)) specifically allows reverse engineering for the purpose of interoperability.

Or are you leading up to announcing something?! That would be interesting, I know some people have done a lot of the groundwork.
