Having only worked on a Neve 8068 for less than a decade and my boss and mentor knowing him personally, I guess I wouldn't know.

Yep, he lives about 60 miles down the road from Austin

I guess I could drive down and ask him, I bet he is super down to earth.

It doesn't have a lot of weaknesses, which is why it's such a legend, but other than price I find myself wishing for a slightly tighter bottom end, a touch more clarity in the highs, and I wish it didn't get washy when stacking 8 or so vocals together. Of course then it wouldn't be a 1073, because those things contribute to the mojo, but that was the question.

Conversely, the reason I bought an Avedis MA5 is because it cleans up all three of those bases, and covers the price factor, too.

Plugin Eq's are just too good today to spend limited funds on them!

Focus on Mic's and Mic Pre-Amps, plus a couple of really good tracking compressors!
