The worst thing about the Neve 1073 are the dinky inner knobs on the EQ, and the output trim pots. I hate those little things, they offer no resistance and feel like they're going to fall off.

Default Neve 1073 - your thoughts

I wish there were some in-between frequency choices. 1084 is a bit more flexible 1073. The thing is, semi-educated potential clients look for the 1073 numbers. They don't notice the (superior) 1084, so there's that. There's also the 1066 that you can think of as a 1073 with different EQ points.

So, I guess the 1073's popularity is a weakness.

I feel the same. I use this guy instead for better EQ control and sound and speed and screen real estate and... and...

BAE 1028 or 1032 solves that.

1028:

Low Frequency: +/-16dB shelving with selectable frequencies of 35Hz, 60Hz, 110Hz & 220Hz.
Mid Range: +/-12dB or +/-18dB peaking with switchable selectable centre frequencies of 160Hz, 270Hz, 360Hz, 510Hz, 700Hz, 1.6kHz, 3.2kHz, 4.8kHz, 7.2kHz, 8.2kHz, 10kHz.
High Pass Filter: 18dB per octave slope, switchable between 45Hz, 70Hz, 160Hz & 360Hz.
Low Pass Filter: 18dB per octave slope, switchable between 6kHz, 8kHz, 10kHz, 14kHz, & 18kHz.
EQ Button: Switches the equaliser on or off

Default Neve 1073 - your thoughts

My only problem with all BAE is they're backwards. In the new Neve and 90% of vintage and other racks, they were always red left and high to low.

BAE feels completely wrong (for Neve).

Ironically, it's the same layout as most any other EQ/Channelstrip.

The limitations on the Neve EQ were designed that way so engineers couldn't "mess up" the sound. Oh well.
