glad i could help, going on past experience, ive been in numerous alpha and beta tests for microsoft through MSDN from desktop software to their server software it made sense for me to have a look if theyd bundled any other drivers with it, hence soon as i saw legacy driver in there my initial gut feeling was confirmed. And suprisingly enough pro tools 8 runs very good and stable through windows 7, only suprising because vista was such a headache to all testers. Its good for digidesign too because the current driver model runs fine so when 7 launches only a cs update will most lilkley be needed for compatibility listing. Basically getting the drivers signed

BEST FIRST POST EVER!! LET'S BUY HIM A ROUND!!!
Confirmed here too... 003R PB is working... wouldn't you know it was the crappy VIA driver that MS pushed! Although my VIA FW PCI card works fine with this legacy driver too. How sweet! Now to load in some of my fav plugs for some real work!

THX DVSONE, brilliant sleuthing.

well the windows OHCI host stack is basically just a generic driver, having a legacy driver makes sense in this case so it should work for all firewires cards both onboard and PCI, although i do beleive some vendors bundle their own driver with their cards.

Whats interesting to me is finding out whats changed in their native win7 driver from their legacy driver and why for most it wont detect the hardware

I still cant force a MAudio midi driver in Win7 64.

DVSone! Hats off! I Spend all weekend getting the drivesr and revision numbers fo 7 patititions, 3 interfaces, Midi Drivers, 1394 drivers, Digi USB Drivers, Digi FW drivers. Etc. I even tried dragging in 1394 system files into the System32 folder to no avail. IIRC correctly 1394 in XP had no choices so I never thought to try to update the driver via the driver update function Doh! for me and cheers for you!

Any idea if there is a legacy MIDI driver?

As I had reported earlier the VIA card worked with the beta W7 drv, which is why I was scratching my head since I was getting communication with that on the machine... I was playing sessions off the FW drive previous to this.

BTW just did some 003 record passes and it's all good. And for anyone who has seen my other thread re. Comping/Playlist not working properly IT DOES ON THIS W7 install. BIG go figure there must be something about my XP/PT8 config.

Heck with that I'll bash on this for a few days or from now on, if my plug set plays nice.
