Can the Preamps/Converters on a Digi 003 be used for anything?

I'm more producer than engineer, so I can't tell the difference between a good pre and a bad one. But I listened to people and bought an 8-channel lightpipe preamp from Focusrite and I'm wondering if there is any practical use for the internal preamps in the 003?
