Default Is any one running 7.3 with an Avid Mojo on a G5 PPC w/ PCI

Is any one running 7.3 with an Avid Mojo on a G5 PPC with PCI? Currently I'm running 7.2 on this set up, I'd like to update PT when they make it compatable with Media Station again. Will I also have to change computers, and my HD3 accel PCI cards to do this?

Yes I am, Charles. I don't understand your question, though, about PCI. That is between the Digi cards and the cpu, not really a Pro Tools version, right?

According to the Digi specs for Mojo, unless I'm reading them wrong, Mojo and 7.3 are incompatable with a G5 with PCI slots. It requires PCIe.
From the Avid Mojo and PT requirements for Mac OS X page.
"Power Mac G5 PCI
Please Note: Pro Tools HD 7.3 and higher are not supported with Mojo with Power Mac G5 PCI models. PCIe models required for Pro Tools HD 7.3 and higher with Mojo"

I had hoped to get more than 2 years use out of my PCI based system.
I have a Magma expansion box. I'm hoping I can keep my PCI cards and just get a PCIe Mac and a new host card for the Magma.
Any ideas from Digi? I really don't want ot be stuck at 7.2, the memory leak is killing me.

Hmmmm. That is new wording. I am fairly certain that is NOT what used to be stated. Digi?

All I can say is I am running the same G5 dual2.5 machine with MOJO for several years. I am running 7.3. The system is a little more sluggish than it used to be, as you would expect with continued software bloat, but it definitely runs fine.

i'll second richard on this - i have 2 rooms with older G5's - a dual 2.0 and a dual 2.5, both with Mojos, both running 7.3, latest CS version. seem to be running fine. well, 'fine' within the context of all the normal PT issues. but no new issues seemed to appear when we added the Mojos.

my 2 cents.

Thanks for the reassurance guys. It would still be great to hear from Tech Support about the warning.

Please Digi write something on the wall about this issue. We're upgrading our three HD rigs from 6.9 to 7.x. What's wrong with PCI and 7.3.1?

(UPDATE) P.S. Another difficulty: Mojo SDI is working only with 7.3.1. Do we need to change our good old PPC G5 PCI in order to use it?

I often work in a room that has older g5, magma 64 box, mojo, and 7.3. It's been good.

Charles,
I am running an HD 2 PCI system with a 2.7Ghz PPC G5 with a Mojo everyday for months and no problems.
I have found that when loading video with the mojo you need to make your audio tracks inactive or it screws up your video load.
My 2 cents,
Fletch

For technical reasons I can't explain here, Pro Tools 7.3.1 changed the way Pro Tools digitizes video, requiring more processor power. Though we still passed our usual stress tests, we received a handful of cases from users where capture would fail on the PCIx Macs. Digitizing from the same tape passed on PCIe Macs and XP systems, so we had to update the docs based on customer feedback.

In general, we tend to err on the side of caution with our compatibility docs.

Thanks, Gordon
