Default You are running out of CPU Power

My Laptop always tells me: "You are running out of CPU Power..."
No matter if I am just listening, recording or bouncing a track.
I had this problem with my old laptop too. But now I have 8GB Ram, an i7 processor and I am recording on a 7200 rpm external drive. Why do I get this error again and again??

Well you could start by giving us more info on your system like what exact computer, operating system & version, what PT version. Ram amount and i7 cpu mean nothing without the rest of the numbers/data. Also size of session, any plugins, etc. Have you properly optimized your system per Avid specs?

I've found in cases where there is no logical reason for getting CPU errors, that a plugin is to sometimes blame. Even if it's not used on a track, just having it load as PT loads can cause it. Have you double and triple checked that all your plugins are current?

Also, have you done any troubleshooting of your own? Have you repaired disk preferences, and deleted the ProTools caches and databases? Even these things can cause it.

Without more of a detailed list of what you HAVE tried if anything it's hard to know what to suggest!

Thank you for your input. Here is a bit more Information about my system:

Windows 8; 64-Bit
Pro Tools M-Powered Essentials
8 GB Ram
Intel (R) Core (TM) i7 4500U CPU @ 1,80 GHz
Size of the session max. 800 MB, but I also got the error message when bouncing a session with only one Instrument on it.

Does this help?
How can I optimize my system per avid specs?

How to optimize your system per Avid specs - Google for it and follow the directions.

A Sandra report would help as well. Read the 'Help us to help you' for what is needed and how to do it.

Some systems with integrated graphics have had issues. Yours may be one of them.

And, disable the Wireless while running Pro Tools.

The optimizations are here>>>

Default Re: You are running out of CPU Power

You only have one hard drive, and it's only 5400 rpm. BIG problem. You need a dedicated 7200 rpm recording drive. From AVID troubleshooting:
IMPORTANT! You MUST use a secondary hard drive (not your main OS drive) for recording and playback of audio in Pro Tools. Recording or playback from the OS drive is known to be problematic and the cause of many different error types. If you are using your system drive and encountering errors, the first thing you should do is get a compatible drive.

Pro Tools supports recording and playback to a secondary drive that meets the following requirements:
  • 7200 rpm or faster
  • 9ms seek time or faster
