Default Need Help Decided to Upgrade to OS High Sierra

Hi all,

I'm looking for your expertise to help me. A couple of facts before the question:
- Last time I upgraded was Jan 10, 2016; So I have PT 12.4
- OS Sierra 10.12.6
- Running on a 15.4-inch MacBook Pro 2.6GHz Quad-core i7, 16GB RAM
- FireWire to my Digi 003 Console
- I am not running into any problems right now with PT. But, some apps I have are beginning to require High Sierra.

Questions:
- Is it worth I upgrade to High Sierra (the latest compatible version, 12.8.3)?
- Anyone else running with a MBP similar to mine?

I have heard that OS High Sierra is RAM hungry and it may be a problem. Would love to hear your thoughts.

Considerations:
- Will the 003 work with High Sierra?
- I do need to upgrade to get to the latest version of PT12 ($99)

Hey there.

I'm kinda in the same position as you - in terms of some apps requiring High Sierra.

I am on Sierra and have decided to just wait it out until Mojave is Pro Tools certified and people are generally happy with its performance.

Don't know if any of the apps you require - you require right now - but if you can wait - that's the route I'm taking...

Also, make sure the plug ins you want to use under Mojave are Mojave certified as well before you make the leap...

The other option would be to load High Sierra or Mojave on a different partition and dual boot... which is something I am looking at now as well...

Agreed. But, I have a feeling that Mojave is going to further me from compatibility with my current system...

I should've asked this question instead:
What is the most stable version of ProTools that I can use with the following hardware:
- 15-in MacBook Pro 2.6GHz Quad-core i7, 16GB RAM
- FireWire to my Digi 003 Console

I am starting to think I need to just forget about upgrading my computer and lock it down to just be a recording machine. Then buy a separate computer for all other things and load the latest and greatest software.

the 003 family drivers work on High Sierra (all releases 10.13 to 10.13.6). I know this from having a 003 Rack+

Note that I have not used the 003 Rack+ very much though in High Sierra. So it could be more buggy than expected, but when I did use it, it worked fine. Obviously using a Digidesign/AVID interface is a little more streamlined than a 3rd part interface since I have found some quirks when using a PreSonus Studio 192 that do not exist with the Rack+

AVID states that High Sierra is not "qualified" but it is COMPATIBLE. They last tested the 003 drivers for Sierra, not High Sierra. Plenty of folks have great results with untested/unqualified hardware and systems. Compatible is different than qualified.

You will need to do your own home work on compatibility otherwise

I just moved to Mojave. Running PT 12.4
So far everything is ok. I would say move forward. Everything works out. There always seems to be issues with even qualified platforms so move forwatd. The overall experience improves.
