Kernel Panic
Hi,
I'm having a strange problem on my main system. Some sessions cause kernel panic if I try to load them. Typically these are bigger sessions with 50 plus tracks and a lot of plugs. The panic happens when PT tries to load the plugs. I checked my HD cards with DigiTest but everything's okay. I trashed all preferences but it happens again. The funny thing is that I can open the sessions on my PT 12 system without a problem. If I open them there and save the session with a new name I can open it on my main system but only once. If I save on the main system and try to open again the kernel panic happens again. It's happening with four or five completely different sessions. Any ideas? Best Mark Gesendet von iPad mit Tapatalk

Re: Kernel Panic
Hi;
Don't know if this will help, but I've discovered that some of the newer versions of AAX plugins don't play well with PTHD 10. One of the worst seems to be Slate's VMR, I've totally given up on that & am back to using VCC 1. Overall, dpm versions seem to be more stable than AAX, so I've pulled the AAX whenever the older dpm is duplicated. If there are newer AAX plugins that seem to be necessary to use, try instantiating them first in a small minimal session. Then they seem to work in the larger session. I've been doing that with Eiosis de-esser, Oxford Envolution & Sound Radix Surfer EQ 2. Have no idea why. But these days, I always keep the older versions when updating plugins. That way if the new one doesn't seem to work, I can quickly revert back to the older working model. So that might be something to investigate. If the manufacturer doesn't post 'legacy installers', request & try earlier versions to see if that helps. Hope that helps..... |

Re: Kernel Panic
Which release of v10? v10.3.10? Are you using the DSP cache with v10?

Re: Kernel Panic
I'll check the version tomorrow. I've been using DSP cache but turned it off last Friday. Maybe that helps. But the crashes even happen when I start the computer in the morning and open one of the critical sessions as the first one.

Re: Kernel Panic
I don´t believe that the hangs are related to dsp-cache. You are stating that these are bigger sessions that cause the issue, so maybe it´s a RAM related thing (exactly what I had some years ago - faulty RAM chip). Or one of your accel cards has an error (had that too). digitest isn´t such reliable ... at least my experience.

Re: Kernel Panic
Do you have access to Pro Tools v9.x on the same hardware (computer, cards), and if so, do those sessions open up in v9.x without a problem?

Re: Kernel Panic
Hi,
I just found the time to try again today, and it's as simple as that: Without DSPcache everything seems to work fine. I tried three of the critical sessions and they opened without a problem. Thanks for your help. Best Mark

Re: Kernel Panic
Well, I'm glad it's not a RAM issue on the Motorola boards...or anything special at all.
