Look at the General Troubleshooting sticky posted just above these posts. Your answers are most likely in there.

IMO the "Recommended" sys requirements of any software are the real minimum. The "Minimum" is just there for marketing purposes.

ProTools needs 1 Gig
Operating system uses 400 Mb and upwards (depending on what OS). That leaves 600 Mb or less for ProTools.

I have 3 Gg, which is on the low side. Next investment is 8 Gb more.

System requirements is not a guarantee it will work. All the system requirements is telling you is that you can't run PT with LESS than 1 Gb. If you're on Vista, Explorer will make PT unusable for instance. Check compability for your motherboard, FireWire chipset etc. Check Digi's compability-pages.

Best luck on getting your system up and running.

1GB of RAM is barely enough to keep a system running, much less PT. Most OS minimum reqs are 1GB these days, and the same goes for most new-ish software. So really, you need at least 2GB if you want to see any performance at all out of your system.

The standard seems to be 4GB these days. RAM has been getting steadily cheaper, so it shouldn't be too financially straining to upgrade your system, unless you have a particularly old chipset.
