Default Optimizing Vista

Just finished installing Vista, and finally 7.4. Loaded a session, getting buffer errors. With XP and previous versions, I never had to tweak any of the OS settings. Now it looks like I need to.

So, the gettings started guide doesn't mention tweaks to Vista - but do the same things apply for XP? I know some of them are common sense, but some may not matter anymore. Not sure.

Also, I read that PT reserves a certain amount of system memory, even when it's not open. Has it always been that way?

Bump - maybe some vista users can share how they optimized their systems for PT?

for vista tweaks try: http://www.blackviper.com/WinVista/servicecfg.htm

are you running an AMD processor? if so...

DAE –9093 Errors When Initiating Recording On AMD Dual-Core Processors (Item #72796)

Users of AMD Dual-Core processors may experience DAE –9093 errors when initiating recording, regardless of track count. If
this occurs, go to the Setup menu, choose Playback Engine, and select and initialize a different Hardware Buffer setting. If the
problem goes away, you can re-select your previous Hardware Buffer setting.

Ah - I thought I'd looked everywhere on the Digi site, but never found that! They don't mention the Aero theme - I wonder how much that affects performance?

Edit: After reading that page, it looks like it's still in progress, that they just started from the XP tweaks template. For example, you don't get to the "Run" command the same way anymore, and I think I read that "msconfig" is something else now.

Yeah thats a new link. I think having Aero on would be kind of cool. I beleive most if not all of the Glass effect is done on the card so it may not have that much of an effect on PT.

Getting to msconfig is the same as in XP, just that now, by default, Vista hides the Run command. After using msconfig, it will show up in your start menu's recent items as "System Configuration Utility".
