Default Can't hear sound : M Audio, What is it ?

Hello ! :)

I'm completely new to Pro Tools and I don't know how to use it : it appears to be complex (so I'm now going to read books about it .

The problem I have is that I'm unable to hear sounds in my computer speakers when I try to play a file (after creating a session from templates).

Here is my configuration :
-MBox2, with Pro Tools LE 8,
-Windows XP Home edition,
-Sound Blaster Audigy audio card,
-Intel Core 2 Duo,
-ASUS M/B P5LD2 mother board.
I use this computer/drive only for Pro Tools (in fact I also have another drive with Vista which I can access with a boot menu).

The istallation process was ok.

As for hearing sound, everything is working fine with softwares like Windows Media Player, Audacity, MelodyEssential, etc.
But Pro Tools won't let me hear any sound in my speakers (I can hear music being played if I use a headphone and connect it directly in the MBox2 front output) and I don't understand why.

I went in my sound configuration panel and here is what I have :

I read somewhere that :
- I needed to have a second hard drive where to place the sound files in order to hear sound/music. So I'm going to buy one in a few minutes (anyway, I need one more drive).
- M Audio was something needed... Can you tell me what M Audio is, because I think I don't have it ?

Thanks a lot ! :)

How exactly do you have your speakers hooked up? They should be hooked from the Mbox through a power amplifier to the input of the speakers... or in the case of powered speakers, from thew Mbox directly to the input of the speakers

You need speakers attached to the Mbox. Pro Tools will not play thru the computer sound card. M-Audio is another product line and you don't need it. You should do some reading. Start here
