Digi 002 Rack Serial Number

Hello,

Since PT9 does not require a Digi interface, I recently sold my Digi 002 Rack on eBay with the intention to upgrade to PT9. Now this may have been stupid but I didn't realize that I needed the serial number off the Digi 002 in order to get the discounted upgrade. Now I'm not getting a response from the buyer. Am I screwed? I upgraded to PT8 when I had the 002 and I have those activation codes from the Avid website via my account, but that doesn't seem to help...?

Yaaay I found a hi-res photo of the back of my unit that I used for eBay...it appears to have worked, I'm downloading PT9 right now!

Your buyer might be a little upset when he/she tries to upgrade using the serial number, unless you stipulated that the unit wasn't eligible for the PT 9 upgrade.

I suppose they can have my Pro Tools LE 8 authorization if they want.

I suppose they can charge back the purchase on their credit card, and return your 002R if they want.

Unless you mentioned that you had or were going to use your serial number for the crossgrade in the auction, you just screwed the buyer. Maybe they had bought it with the intention of upgrading to 9.

And just fwiw, if and when I sell my 002, I plan on adding the option of buying pt9 with it for the price of the crossgrade. If they don't want pt9 awesome, but if they do I think it's only fair to offer it to them for a reasonable price.

Actually, if you sold this to somebody, and got the serial number from a photo after the sale was complete, you've just stolen from the buyer.
As soon as you accepted payment, the 002 ceased being yours.
And what's even worse is now there's a public record of you admitting to doing just that.
That's like selling someone a used car, then going and taking the tires off of it a week after the sale because you had "intended" to keep them.
I'm not saying anything will come of all this, just trying to point out that you've opened yourself up to some troubles.
