You can buy just the hardware only version of the Mbox Pro for less money if you don't need the software.

I know everyone has been recommending the Focusrite Saffire Pro40 but I wanted to know about the Focusrite Saffire Pro24 DSP. I'm assuming that its the same architecture from the Pro40 and Pr056 but assuming can be a costly and time wasting lesson so I wanted to confirm here (before my purchase).

Has anyone used the Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 DSP model on a Mac?

The best, most supported interfaces for Pro Tools 10 are AVID's own interfaces. They work fine and sound great. Third-party interface performance is only as good as the third-party drivers, so if you have a problem with Pro Tools and a third-party interface- it's very difficult to solve, especially if you want AVID's help. Most people here are using AVID interfaces, so I'd say any advice you get here would be anecdotal at best, and thus not very helpful. AVID is certainly not going to test every possible combination of Pro Tools and hardware out there. You'd probably be better off trying to see if there is a Focusrite support forum and seeing what those users experience with Pro Tools.

My opinion- get an M-Box Pro...

Add 200 to the price of the mbox pro, and you get a liquid saffire 56 that has a total of 8 pres with 2 of them emulating vintage and popular (10 in total) preamps. There's a lot more I/O on it too and it works very well with PT 9 and 10. Although you wont have the onboard dsp the mbox pro has, the quality of the pre's are superior on the saffire 56 IMHO.

I understand where you are coming from however I disagree with "Avid's own interfaces working best with PT10." I'm sure the new MBox works great with my PT10 but my 002r doesn't work at all. Not to mention how so many people recommended staying away from multiple M-Audio products.

(Speaking of M-Audio), I got my eyes on the M-Audio Fast Track C600. I'm only doing mostly mixing in stereo and 5.1. Does this work with PT10 and has anyone used it?

If so, what are your thoughts?

Do you really want to be stuck with an Avid interface when they decide that it won't work with ProTools anymore?

Get something else that uses non-Avid drivers and they can't touch it. It'll work as long as there are drivers for it.

ymmv

Hey J - maybe post some evidence to show that I'm wrong. The guy asked for an opinion. I gave mine.

Apogee Ensemble here. Sounds great, runs great, has great software (maestro).

The HD I/O are damn good, and they are rigged to last a while after pt goes 64 bit, so people shouldn't have any problems there. M-audio.. there's some good stuff, not everything is of equal value though and well that's normal for the targeted buyers.
