Default Kontakt Player (4.2.2) loading 3rd party libraries need help

I am having a bad time getting Kontakt Player to recognize 3rd party libraries. Can anyone please tell me what the drill is for this? I read in the manual that the ADD LIBRARY function does not work with a lot of 3rd party sounds. DATABASE looks very complicated and I haven't succeeded with that either.

Help appreciated.

Thank you,

Harry

Can you open the .nkm and/or .nki files with the "Files" -> Load... menu?

This is in the upper right corner of the kontakt window and has a little icon shaped like a floppy disk.

Thanks very much for coming to my aid.

I dug around and, as you suggested, I double clicked on the .nki file for one of the sounds and - bang - there it was. But it isn't loading the entire library - just that one patch. Can you tell me how to load an entire library.

I'm very grateful - I've been struggling with this for hours.

If you are talking about adding to the libraries tab on the left, all I've ever had to do is click on the "add library" button at the top of the tab. This will open a file browser, just point it to the folder the library you are trying to add. Once you do this, the library will show up under the red kontakt factory library. Then you just click on "browse" to load various instruments and/or multis.

I know that kontakt player will only work with encrypted libraries, i.e. you can't edit most of what's in the nki's or nkms. I've never tried to open something that wasn't encrypted with the kontakt player, but there is a slight chance this might be your problem. What specific library is this?

BTW - .nki files are instruments, .nkm's are multis.

The multi would be a group of .nki's, that might be what you are looking for.

the only way to add a library to the "library" tab is if they created a library file. A lot of smaller companies don't do this for some reason (maybe a licensing thing with NI?).

Bigger companies will have their libraries show up in the library tab, as well as anything made by NI.

But If you, for example, buy something from a smaller company like ToneHammer, you can load the patches in using the file tab but you'll never be able to get it to show up in the library tab because Tonehammer hasn't created a "library" file for it to show up in the library tab.

For these libraries that don't show up in the Library tab, you have to manually load each patch in using the File tab and dragging them in (or double clicking on them).
