6031 Issues and Observations

it seemed to be one of 2 things that solved the 6031's for me
one of the cures may have been the ni kore2 controller driver which i only uninstalled and reinstalled

about the time i started getting pops and clicks, i made quite a few changes to my machine,this was roughly about 3 months ago.

i installed new qt,new video card driver, new pace,new kore controller driver. the machine was used for playback only around that time so, after all of the new updates, i really didn't use pt other than playback. no problems at all for a short time. with that, i remember my kore 2 controller driver install being a bit dodgy at the time which is why i recently uninstalled reinstalled it after dealing with all of the pops and clicks and 6031 errors.

remember, the reinstall was of the same version kore 2 controller driver, no change there except for uninstall reinstall of the same driver

the other thing i did was, going back to an older midi i/o .sys (actually i think there is 2 in total) file in the digidesign programs folder from an earlier acronis image. the reason i did this is because my digi midi i/o seemed to be doing wierd things, sending wierd midi to out board gear

these are the 2 changes i have made to my system which ,as of the last 5 days,my machine has not had a 6031 or any pops and clicks



p.s. i am not saying this is the total cure,we'll see in another week or two

also remember some here had working systems before upgrading
i guess we all want to upgrade to the latest and greatest, i do
once installing these new updates, we shouldn't be in such a fragile state.
protools needs to have more protective armor installed.

Updated my bios and nvidia card with no change.As a matter of fact the 6031's came faster after the updates.Pulled the 8.0.1 drive back out and slid 7.4 back in.Screw 8,I wasted enough of my life f##king life with that pile of crap.The cpu meters between PT's and the task manager still have a 30% difference in 8.In 7.4 they always both read the same.The 8 software is garbage plain and simple.Alot of jobs these past 2 weeks in 7.4 and it is bulletproof.

Hi Meat,

Can you list your system specifics - maybe even a sandra report? I had a look to see if you had done so and can't find anything. With all of the eyes here we may be able to point you to something that you may have missed.

I've noticed you said you updated your Nvidia drivers - do you have access to an ATI card? That's one of the contributing factors I'm leaning towards. When I experienced the errors, updating the video drivers didn't make a difference at all.

At least give us a detailed list of your hardware so we can peruse...

Thanks Meat,

What MB and CPU are you using? You have a couple of Firewire cards as well - I assume one of them is on the MB, can you disable this and perhaps pull the second one? Does the firewire card have usb ports on it? Wondering what the NEC PCI-usb is - it could be on the motherboard, if you let me know what brand model the motherboard is it will help

The screenshot looks exactly how mine was before I changed the video card banishing the nvidia for good.

I want to sort this out for you!! :)

Are you also running 2 monitors? Have you tried just using one and fully disabling the 2nd one? Actually unplug the monitor and reboot so windows won't detect it.

Sorry if you have done all of these things - I don't mean to be condescending, just trying to find something you may not have tried.
