Whale effect on a voice?
Hey,
Anyone have any good tips for creating a whale sound from a voice? At the moment we have actors doing it but it sounds a bit dodgey really. Is is best to synthesis it completely?? Or might vocoding/morphing help me out? Only worry is that it will gave to be pretty musical because they sing a song further along in the series! Any good starting places would be much appreciated Thanks |

Re: Whale effect on a voice?
Hire Brian Blessed as the voice artist!
The most obvious way would be to varispeed, or at least pitch shift the entire performance down a few tones and add some reverb (depending on the perspective you're hearing the voice from - like someone trapped in the whales mouth). Have you tried doing anything weird like looping some of the vowel sounds and blending that with some actual whale song, so that they appear to almost sing their lines - whale style? |
