Default D-command model 2005 and PTHD 10

Hi every one
i'm going to set a new studio, my budget allow me to buy a PTHD 10 but not a controller. I found a used D-commad from 2005, i would like to know if there will be issues with this configuration or there is full compatibility.
Thanks
M.

Yes early d commands can not do "multi mode" without a com board upgrade. Also the early d commands have faders that fail over time. FYI a d command fader cost about 200 dollars. So to replace 24 faders on a d command costs 4800.

MIRKO -

I bought an Avid Artist Mix - its only 8 faders , but it is expandable and you can actually connect up to 4 units of the Mix model and combine it with an artist control for a total of 36 Faders and knobs....its cost effective and ready for the future of protools , it really works great. i really wanted a controller too, and the icon family is way to expansive and the c24 or control 24 never seemed worth the 10K dollars it costs . but the artist series is a great investment , i know its not sexy or impressive as the big monsters like d command and icon but there are some really cool looking dedicated studio furniture that fits the artist series family and makes it look like an amazing console....
i really like mine and can't wait to get 3 more units......

I have a D Command from August 2007 which has the original faders and it works fine with PTHD10.

Best

FYI i just swap my 24 faders for new carbon faders last week and it cost me a little less than 1600$.

I have a blue D-command and fader pack. Work great.

Cheers.

There is no comparing an ICON. It's the only control surface that I can do most things faster than a mouse with. If you are a programmer or producer then perhaps not so much, but for a mix person it is miles in front. So many dedicated buttons and knobs as well as tons of visual feedback that is not deliverable simultaneously via PT mix / edit windows. Dedicated eq and dynamics sections plus the ability to bypass all a tracks inserts / sends with a single button press are worth it alone to me. Unique to ICON.

I've owner HUI, Control 24 and ProControl. They are all ok - but most functions I was faster with keystroke and mouse. Not so with ICON.

Search the ICON subforum on the topic of earlier dcommand faders. There are some solutions. You probably do not need to replace all faders. But I would rather a few failed faders on a dcommand than any other surface period.

My 2c.

I agree. Although I'd still put the ancient ProControl in a somewhat distant second place.

I stand corrected. Thought it cost much more to upgrade the icons faders.

I own a artist mix + control + mix + transport. I am super happy with them. I've worked on icon (had a set in front of a d command for a year) and I prefer a eucon set up. The one thing the artist will do is focus a track you select with the curser and all plugs ins will focus as well. This function makes mixing with a artist controller really fast for me. Whatever way you go you can't go wrong. Icon or eucon. Both work great. Artist controllers are much less expencive tho.
Good luck
