Upgrading 001 to 003 Factory: two questions
Hi folks,
I am about to upgrade and I am unsure of a couple of things. Searches of the DUC have not helped answer these questions, so I post them here. (1) Is the Digi001 to "Digi003 Factory" upgrade still available? Many of the references to it that I saw on the Digidesign site and elsewhere on the web refer to this being a time-sensitive offer, or other suggestions that this deal is not always in place. And, the Digidesign page that discusses Hardware Exchange doesn't seem to indicate how I actually would GET the discount.... Do I have to mail in my 001 and wait weeks?? (2) I have some sort of 001 bundle (circa 2002, but upgraded circa 2005) that contains Waves Q10, and I also had a bunch of Digirack plug-ins such as D-Verb, Compressor II, Mod Delay II, and also Digidesign's D-Fi (Sci-Fi, Lo-Fi, etc.) stuff. What do I have to do to make sure that I can open my old sessions using my new Mac/003 set-up and still be able to use all those "older" sessions and their plug-ins? THANKS!!!!!! Vogger |

Re: Upgrading 001 to 003 Factory: two questions
1) AFIK, the exchange deals are always in place. You go through a retailer to do it - since you're in NYC I'd recommend Alto Music, they're great when it comes to the Digi hardware exchanges. Basically you'll buy the new hardware from the Digi retailer at the exchange price, then you have something like 30 days to get your old hardware back to them to complete the deal. 2) Assuming you can somehow upgrade the Q10 to work with PTLE 7.x (you'd have to check with waves?), the rest are easy to deal with. The EQ/Dyn II plug-ins are free, but are actually being phased out in favor of the new v3 versions, but you can still use the v2 if you need to. I believe the D-Fi stuff is still part of the 'factory' bundles, so you should be covered there. |

Re: Upgrading 001 to 003 Factory: two questions
Hey Slim,
1) I went to buy a 003 rack (via Hardware Exchange) at a store in NYC, and I was told that I have to order it and sit around for a few WEEKS while Digidesign verifies my eligibility and only then will they ship the 003 factory unit to the dealer. (Why they have to ship a piece of gear that is supposedly already in stock was not explained.) Is this how Hardware Exchange always takes place? I was under the impression that I would walk into a store, buy a Digi003 and be on my way with the gear, and that I'd settle up the 001 turn-in later on via the mail. Anyone know how this is really supposed to work? Thanks! Vogger |

I was looking to do a similar upgrade and the doofs at Guitar Center told me the same story.

Re: Upgrading 001 to 003 Factory: two questions
Sweetwater made the exchange painless. I paid $795 for the 003R upgrade (from 001R), and received it within a week. You have to ship your old 001 stuff back to digidesign. But the good thing is that Digidegesign pays for the shipping.
That's about the only good thing about digi |

Re: Upgrading 001 to 003 Factory: two questions
Thanks for the feedback, folks.
So, is every store different? The "Hardware Exchange" page of the Digidesign website says something like "3 to 4 weeks for delivery," to which I say, "Delivery of WHAT?" It would seem needlessly complicated to make a customer wait four weeks when the unit is sitting in the store, especially since this is basically a rebate. Countless mfgrs. offer rebates and yet they don't make you wait for the merchandise a month after you request it. They simply don't pay you back the difference until you've jumped through the designated hoops (e.g., mail in your serial number or e-mail or code or whatever). So, I guess it is frustrating to hear that it depends on where you buy it, and even then, you still have to wait. Best regards, Vogger |

Re: Upgrading 001 to 003 Factory: two questions
+1 for Sweetwater, I bet its in stock and shipping always used to be free so by the time you've finished trying to deal with the dolt at the local BigBox Muzak Center the box could be on your porch.
Dude, 001 to 003....Your gonna be asking your self "Why was I waiting for? I should have done this years ago"

Re: Upgrading 001 to 003 Factory: two questions
Too quick things
1. I will never +1 Sweetwater had a jack*ss for a rep and took too much effort to get a better rep. 2. a brand new 003R is $950-999. Did the hardware exchange include any extras like it did before or has the MPTK been dropped from the exchange? |
