Default Numeric keypad.

This has probably already been discussed but is there a way of enabling a numeric keypad on a new macbook pro so that I can use shortcuts to bring up the memory location window or the big counter?

Pretty dumb if Apple have done away with this all together?

Yes, unfortunately, Apple chose to remove the number pad functionality from laptops. Pisses me off to no end.

You can use an external numeric keypad. Wireless via bluetooth. Or via USB, if you like it very cheap...

Yes, this is certainly an option, however, it kind of ruins the whole 'portability' and simplicity of a laptop setup. On my old MBP, you could at least get to the functions with the fn key, which was a pain, but doable. I am just glad that I don't really do much work on my laptop.
