Default Slow boot-up time PT 8.0.4cs2 on Win 7 - plug-ins load every time

I have my computer running in dual boot, one for win XP and one for win 7. Everything runs better hands down in my win7 update, except for one thing... Pro Tools loads the plug-ins every single time like it was the first time I had booted it up after a fresh install. I have cleared the preferences and data, and if i simply close and re-open it, PT opens super fast and flys thru the plug-in checks. However, as soon as i restart my computer it takes forever again.

In windows xp, I don't have this problem at all (running 8.0.3 LE on that). Any reason why it might have to search for all the plug-ins every time i boot up in win7? thanks -

Did you install the latest QiuckTime with Windows 7?

any reason why quicktime has anything to do with it? Now that I look at it, looks like i have an old version of Itunes, which i download quicktime with... I'll try that out and see if it makes any differents.

QT is required for PT. QT video and PT Preferences.

no luck... still slow boot up time. Have the latest QT and I'm pretty sure the latest updates for PT and anything else... it takes about 5-10 seconds for each "AIR" plug-in to load (which is quite a few) then Xpand takes another 15-20 seconds. in WinXP, flys right thru em all in about 1 second. lame!

I am dealing with the exact same thing. Every time I reboot my PC PT loads super slowly. After that first startup though, PT fires up quickly. I will try the latest QT update as well just to see if it helps on my end.

Are you both running 8.0.4cs2? Can you reproduce the issue with 8.0.4cs1. Does just 8.0.4 display the same behaviour as 8.0.4cs2? Are you both running as Administrators Accounts? Is Windows 7 Update enabled?

glad i'm not the only one... i plan on upgrading to PT9 at some point in my life, so hopefully that would fix the problem too if necessary. if someone figures out this blasphemous happening, please let us know

I am running cs2, but have not tried vanilla 8.0.4. I am running PT under an admin account, and yes Win 7 Update is enabled. Should win 7 update be enabled or disabled when running PT?

Right, bigsnack, yes, Windows 7 Update should be enabled, this way it keeps everything current and compatible. Ummm... can you help us help you by trying to reproduce this behaviour with 8.0.4cs1 and 8.0.4? Due to the laws of the process of elimination, we can rule out Pro Tools as to be fair I have not heard about this issue with Pro Tools LE 8.0.4 nor any related customer service release.
