Re: record by m-audio and fast track ultra 8R
Why do you need separate OUTPUTS for this? You can record 8 mics to 8 separate tracks with this interface. If you truly need 8 separate outputs, there are several on the market, such as
Avid/Digidesign 002/003 Focusrite Pro 40, LS56 MOTU 828 Mk II M-Audio ProFire 2626 Most of us that work with a native Pro Tools setup(no HD hardware) do just fine with a stereo output feeding the monitors, and a few outputs for creating custom headphone mixes(if we record bands).

Re: record by m-audio and fast track ultra 8R
Pretty much every DAW in the world does this. Its called "Multi-tracking" It puts each signal(microphone, DI, virtual instrument) on its own track(could be a MONO track or a STEREO track). Each and every track is a separate audio file, and each can be edited and processed in a myriad of ways(change the EQ, add compression, reverb, echo.....). Then all those individual tracks can be exported, or mixed right "In the box"(also called ITB).

Re: record by m-audio and fast track ultra 8R
Whichever software you use, you'll need to read the specific manual on how to create tracks & route Input & Output (I/O) signals using buses, digital or analogue paths either to a physical interface and/or within the software itself. I/O requirements are met with ones choice of audio interface. It is at the interface where physical I/O limitations become apparent. In your case, if I recall correctly the M-audio Fast Track Ultra has 6 analogue outputs.
Within the program it's just a matter of selecting the I/O's by way of a drop down menu on each track to send and/or receive signals. Typically within the software one would create separate tracks for each required signal (Mic, guitar, piano & so on), select appropriate I/O paths on each track and mix down to a stereo output. As Albee stated practically any audio editing software enables this to be done. Your physical routing options are determined by your interface capabilities. If you want to send say 8 separate audio channels from within the software mix to separate physical outputs you'll need an interface with a minimum of 8 outputs. Typically a lot of interfaces only provide 2 outputs since most non professional requirements mix down to a mono/stereo pair.

Re: record by m-audio and fast track ultra 8R
Yes, you should be able to do this. Make sure you're using the ASIO driver (not DirectX) when you setup Audition. Then assign each input to a separate mono track.
Here's a setup guide for Audition 3 that might help:http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=...46977e13f98c8e Joel

Re: record by m-audio and fast track ultra 8R
I have an m-audio fast track ultra and would like to route each of the four mic inputs to four separate, individual outputs. However, no matter what I do all mic inputs automatically always go to all outputs. Even when my DAW (Cubase 5) is closed each of the inputs always send to all outputs. How do you make each individual input go to an individual output and not all outputs? Thanks a lot.

Re: record by m-audio and fast track ultra 8R
What DAW software are you using? In Pro Tools you should be able to set the output for each individual track, the output is to the right of where you set the input on each track.

Re: record by m-audio and fast track ultra 8R
Apologies! I believe that Pro Tools SE is limited to only 2 record tracks at a time. In regular Pro Tools, you can record as many inputs as the interface can handle(up to 32 maximum). HD/Native with HD IO allows for 64, and HDX goes higher.
