The 192 and 96 will only work when hooked up to an HD system. They do not function as standalone converters. This also includes the new HD interfaces, with the exception of the Omni, which can be configured to sort of work as a 2 channel converter. Though it still needs to be hooked up to an HD system in order to be set up that way initially.
