$3500 for Pro Tools HD Native
$3000 Avid HD Omni
=$6500

I would like to see less of a gap between Pro Tools HD Native and Pro Tools LE.

I also think that because of Pro Tools HD Native, Pro Tools 9 LE will likely not have ADC. This feature alone would help justify the cost for Pro Tools HD Native for many people.

Surely a fairer comparison with this would be an mBox 3 at $549 ? No ADC perhaps but for many that's not a deal breaker.

Except that the mbox only runs with PTLE which has lots of software limitations. If you add on some of the extra $$$ software add ons you're getting more in the ballpark.

So Logic and Studio One are also hardware...?

Why don't people understand that you aren't paying $3500 for the software? You are paying $3500 for an interface card that out-performs HD1 for half the price.

Find me a 64 channel card+I/O+Software that isn't several grand. Then... find me one that connects to an ICON.

That new card is more expensive, and it's basically a super simple PCIe card.

At $1000 it should have been affordable. At $3500, no way. Digi really lost an opportunity in my opinion here. A used PCIe card is cheaper and more powerful.

They should have gone about a grand, that would probably have enticed a lot of LE users to invest. Because the card by itself is no good, the user has to buy an expensive interface as well that they would have made enough money on.
Good grief people...it is not just a card. It is the software too. The software with CPT would run 2000 right there.

And that's exactly what is wrong with avid/digi. If you really need to sell the software for two grand, just sell the software for two grand. The whole interface/dongle charade is getting old.

Does anyone else find it laughable that people are heralding this new device as the end of Pro Tools?

Indeed.

If anything... it's a defibrillator.

It is what it is. The other companies don't have a high end line to protect, Avid does. There's a world of other options out there for all the people who whine about Pro Tools.

Logic has a dongle too, called a Mac.
