[solved] can't start up for first time post-install (Win10/pt12.7)

hello dear DUCkers,

My dear old 2012 Macbook Air finally died, so I've just installed PT12.7 on Win10 on a Surface Pro 4, so i can do some editing of existing sessions. I have no compatible audio interface (my Apogee is firewire), but since I'll just be editing, the headphone output should suit my needs fine.

However, when I start up, I get the error message "The selected audio device could not be initialized. Please choose another audio device. [Quit] [OK]" I click OK, and next get an AAE -6117 error. If i click OK on this, I get the previous error again, and it's an infinite loop of these two. So all I can do, finally, is select Quit.

I tried starting up holding the N key to select an audio device, but it has no effect. Can anyone help me get started up, with the headphone jack as my output?

EDIT: ok solved! i had to install the free ASIO4ALL driver. I'm leaving this here because it might be useful to others.

Hey

You need a virtual driver that mimics a audio interface driver like asio4all as on windows machines you can’t use the onboard audio card without a virtual driver like asio4all. Many members use that here on the forum until they get a real interface so safe but not a ”great” longterm solution for PT.

I would also look for a Usb/thunderbolt to FW adapter if it exist for PC.

Download free version and try and I bet you will be up and running within minutes
