Default Audio Processing is Conflicting with other tasks

hi,

i just installed a new secondary hard drive to store all my music files on and now when i try to play anything from this drive i get the error message...Audio Processing is Conflicting with other tasks. If this occurs often, try reducing the H/W Buffer size in the Hardware setup panel....Why?!?!

It worked perfectly fine on my system drive before and digi says that the system will run smoother from a dedicated drive.

help!

Most probably one of the IRQs is not playing fair. List your IRQs and COmponent list so we can help you.

oh another thing.

after i reduce the buffer size and try to play the tracks again it says...The opperating system held off interupts for too long. if this occurs often try increasing the h/w buffer size.... AAARRGGHHH. it makes me mad!

thanks,
vide

well...funny you should ask. i assembled the computer myself. bought the parts and the case and put it together.

it has an
amd athlon 800 mghz processor, tyan k7 mother board, voodoo3 video card, creative audio sound card, lynksys network card, scsi card, hp cd burner (scsi), lg cd rom, zip drive, the digi card, floppy, western digital 7200 rpm 20.5 gig primary drive, western digital 60 gig 7200 rpm secondary hard drive.

i think thats it. is it really that bad? oops.

thanks again,
dave

oh, btw i got it to work...forgot to click that damn dma check box for the properties of the new hard drive. it appears to work ok now. is there anything i should do to avoid future problems, considering the messed up nature of my irqs?

to free up some resources you could disable your com-ports and usb devices from the bios. I had to do that to put my network adapter on irq 4. Now it works sort of ok.
