Default .wav file convert to .mid file format

I've posted this question yesterday and got some answers. however, there are still something I don't understand: i need to convert the wave file (xxx.wav) to midi file (xxx.mid) like those songs you can download from the internet. They are just normal types of songs with different musical arrangement and it seems .mid is just an audio file format like .wav or .aiff. that you can download. Could someone pls explain and elaborate on this topic? We have also tried a Utility program call Amazing Midi downloaded from the Net which upon conversion gives a .mid file but of the wrong pitch.Anyone tried this?
Sorry for my ignorance.

Default Re: .wav file convert to .mid file format

Sorry Eddie, but MIDI is not just "an audio file format like .wav or .aiff.".

The MIDI file format does not contain any audio-information, but simply the notes and accompanying information about them (how long the sustain, velocity, etc...). Then you need a sound module and/or sequencer to play it. When you download .mid-files I guess your browser uses QuickTime Musical Instruments or an equvivalent.
