Playback post bounce sounds mono?
I'm tearing my hair out here.
Session in protools has plenty of width, sounds normal, but after i bounce and check from comp it sounds mono? 1st weird thing is pervious bounced songs sound fine. 2nd weird thing is when i import the bounce file back into PT sounds fine. What is going on here? Session is 24/48 bouncing to 24/44. Any suggestions guys? |

Re: Playback post bounce sounds mono?
When you play the bounced file on your computer, what app are you using?
Does it happen with other applications? iTunes, QuickTime etc. Is the playback from the computer coming from a different soundcard? If so, how is that routed to your monitoring? If you’re willing to post the file or even a section of it, we can have a listen on our systems and potentially rule our a few things. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Playback post bounce sounds mono?
Check system prefs> accessibility> audio> play stereo as mono.

If it’s the same soundcard that you’re using for PT, then it’s probably safe to assume it’s a software issue. The Accessibility setting that was mentioned is a good suggestion and worth checking. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Normally, to just hear the mix, I’d agree. But in this case, I’d want to check the actual file that the user is having issues with. A DropBox link or similar file hosting app would be best. That way, we can download the file and check the properties and try it on our playback systems. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Playback post bounce sounds mono?
Ok i've checked that mono setting and it's not on, clicked on and off to be sure. I bounced some hard left audio and yep it 100% is playing back in mono. So yeah it's something with my comp, any other suggestions?
In the meantime i'll go down the google rabbit-hole again and report back any findings. |

Re: Playback post bounce sounds mono?
Very interesting. Yesterday I got confirmation of a bug in the Downmixer plugin, which seems to be passing only one side of a Stereo signal in some cases.
Would need to see your specific session layout and whether the Downmixer is involved at any stage. As a test, could you balance your mix fully left and bounce. Balance fully right and bounce. And see whether one of the bounces is actually silent? |
