Default Midi notes shifted up 1/2 step?

hey folks, im hoping you may help me. im working on PT9 with a kurzweil midiboard. the issue im having is that periodically, PT will "nudge" all midi notes played into a midi track up a 1/2 step. it doesnt always do this. when it DOES do this, i notice that it will do this only in play/record mode. i.e. if i set up a virtual instrument, and sustain a C on the midiboard, it will play a C. as soon as i press play or record, it transposes that STILL DEPRESSED C to a C#.

if i flip the pitch wheel once, it will revert back to C. but the weird part is that it is virtually a crapshoot as to whether the midi data in the track will play as C or C#. if i go to note mode, it will show a C. however, some notes will be replayed as C#, some wont. it seems to correspond to the timeline in some fashion. for example, if i copy/paste a "proper" C from 1:10 to a location where C became C#, lets say 1:25, it will still replay as a C#. somehow that location in the timeline is being programmed with data that tells it to nudge up a 1/2 step.

any ideas? thanks, rj

Hi,

It really sounds like you have inadvertently recorded some pitch bend CC data. If flipping the pitch bender on your controller causes a change in behavior maybe your controller has a mechanical issue and the controller sending pitch bend data when it shouldn't.

If you look at the data on the track in the Edit window with the track view set to Notes and a note is really on C but playing C# then there is some pitch bend data accompanying it. Try changing the track view from Notes to Pitch Bend and see if you see controller data that you can delete. This would also explain the copy and paste behavior you see because the pasted "correct C" would also past the CC data from its area on the timeline.

Hope this helps.
